ZDelete.NET Options

Options ZDelete.NET options affect the behavior of all utilities in ZDelete.NET package:

  • ZDelete.NET
  • ZDelete.NET for Windows Explorer
  • ZDelete.NET Disk Wiper

The options you can specify are:

1. Error and warning messages during cleaning

When enabled, all errors and warnings during cleaning procedure will be shown in dialog window. It is recommended to keep this option enabled when starting ZDelete.NET manually with user interface, however, when ZDelete.NET is configured to run automatically on scheduler it could be more convenient to disable this feature, so ZDelete.NET will not stop and wait for user confirmation in case of some errors.

2. Confirmation of any ZDelete.NET action

When enabled, a confirmation screen appears before any ZDelete.NET command is engaged.

As the file removal functions of ZDelete.NET are permanent, it is recommended that you keep this option enabled to make sure that you are aware of deleting actions as they are executed.

3. Logging last commands

ZDelete.log is a text file that is created by enabling this option. It will be located in the folder where you installed software.

When enabled, ZDelete.log saves a record of recent commands, command durations, error messages and other pertinent data.

ZDelete.log will not record names of destroyed file. It will record the number of files processed, and names of files that could not be processed due to errors.

This log file can be helpful to confirm the approximate time that ZDelete.NET is run automatically or to help correct problems with automatic configuration.

4. Close Internet Explorer when Auto-Cleaner starts

Enable this option if you want to automatically close all instances of Internet Explorer when cleaning procedure is started.

Enabling this option will eliminate access problems when cleaning Internet History or Temporary Internet Files. In some instances, popup windows (advertising) appear automatically, causing confusion in the folder when both creating and removing functions are happening at the same time.

5. Confirming items before cleaning

When this option is enabled, a confirmation window with the list of all items to clean will appear before actually starting cleaning process. You can at this step cancel cleaning at all or exclude some items from cleaning. It is useful when you have a configured profile you generally clean but sometimes you'd like to exclude some lengthy procedures from it like wiping disks. With this option enabled you are able to leave your settings as they are and make some changed just before cleaning.

6. Confirming items before cleaning with Windows Explorer

This option is similar to the previous one except it affects ZDelete.NET extension for Windows Explorer only. If you enable it, you will be prompted to delete selected items in Windows Explorer context menu. Please notice, that ZDelete.NET options are not in effect until saved. See Saving ZDelete.NET Profile.

7. Confirmation after cleaning

If this option is enabled, ZDelete.NET will show a confirmation message after cleaning process is finished.

8. Security Level

When ZDelete.NET destroys data, it overwrites with random data according to specified cleaning method. You can choose from the following methods available:

  • One pass zeros (quick, low security)
  • One pass random (quick, low security)
  • U.S. DoD 5220.22-M (confirms US Department of Defense clearing and sanitizing standard DoD 5220.22-M, slow, high security)
  • German VSITR (slow, high security)
  • Russian GOST p50739-95 (slow, high security)
  • Guttman method (very slow, highest security)

Be aware that more sophisticated cleaning methods take more time.
