Remote Administration Basics

Administrator's and user's versions

In Enterprise Edition ZDelete.NET provides two different modules - for network administrator and for the client. Essentially they have the same core functionality and everything described in other parts of this documentation is applicable to both versions. Besides this, administrator's version provides capabilities for network administrator to manage other users profiles in the local network, while client version supports such kind of control by administrator. Later in this section we will refer them as administrator version and client version or simply as administrator and client.

How does it work?

When client version of ZDelete.NET starts, it listens for commands from administrator. Administrator can see the list of clients running ZDelete.NET in the local network and settings of their profiles. He can read ZDelete.NET settings applied to the client account and overwrite those settings to ensure a unified corporate security. Administrator cannot explicitly run cleaning process on the client machine or see his private data, he only configures client profile.

For example, administrator wants to be sure that every user in the network cleans temporary Internet files and cookies on the daily basis. He can achieve this by enabling My Temporary Internet Files and My Internet Cookies options and setting Scheduler for midnight time daily cleaning for every user in the network. Once the settings are configured by administrator, Task Scheduler on client machines will take care about desired cleaning.

What can administrator configure on the client?

Administrator can configure System Folders like Temporary Internet Files, Cookies, History etc, Disks to Wipe and ZDelete.NET Options like selecting security level. Besides, he can setup Scheduler for the client. Administrator also can see what is the the status of the scheduler on the client machine and when last time ZDelete.NET was executed.

Can administrator access client's private data?

No. Despite the ability to enable erasing of temporary Internet files for client for example, administrator cannot see those temporary files. All View buttons in System Folders pane are not available for administrator. He cannot also delete arbitrary files or folders on the client machine - Custom Items pane is not available for remote configuration.
